EMERGENCY TURBINE ROTOR REPAIR

WASTE-TO-ENERGY FACILITY

Interpro was contacted by a waste-to-energy facility to investigate a high vibration issue noted to have occurred on their Turbine/Generator. The unit went into alarm and was shut down for further evaluation. The anticipated scope of work began as a bearing inspection but after removing the #1 & #2 bearings and no problems noted, our Specialists suspected blade damage.

The focus turned into performing a borescopic inspection on the L-0 blades. The borescope revealed a broken blade and the project shifted to a complete overhaul. This led to the turbine rotor being shipped to a partner repair facility for re-blading (with new blades being supplied).

Interpro provided supervision, craft labour, tools and sub-contractor services in support of this inspection. The quick response by our team contributed to minimizing the overall downtime of this unit.
